Pool Table Game: The Basics

Whether you’re shooting pool at a bar or in your home game room, understanding the basics of the game is essential. Eight-ball is the most popular form of pool, and it’s generally the easiest to learn. Here are the basics you need to know before your next game.

There are 15 balls on a pool table: seven striped balls, seven solid-colored balls, and one black ball, and one white ball (the cue ball). The object of eightball is to pocket all of your balls (either stripes or solids), and then legally pocket the eight-ball. If you sink the cue ball, it’s a foul. If you sink the eight ball before all your others (either stripes or solids) you lose.

The game is usually played on a regulation-size table that measures 4 1/2 feet by 9 feet. The pockets are located in each corner and in the middle of each long side.

Tips For Playing Pool Table Game

Whether you’re shooting pool in a bar or playing at home, it’s important to know the basics of the game. Here are a few tips to help you improve your pool game:

  1. Practice your aim. It’s important to be able to hit the cue ball accurately if you want to make shots. You can practice your aim by setting up some balls on the table and taking shots at them.
  2. Use a lighter touch. Many beginner players tend to hit the cue ball too hard, which makes it difficult to control where it goes. A light touch will help you keep better control of the cue ball and make better shots.
  3. Know your equipment. The type of pool cue you use can make a big difference in your game. Using a higher-quality cue can help you make better shots and improve your accuracy.
  4. Always keep your eye focused on the ball, not your hand,
  5. In the hand that will stroke the cue, keep the grip loose.
  6. In the hand that serves as a guide, the one that the cue is set upon, find a stable position so that it remains steady.
